Baxter Opens New Centre to Enable More Access to Home Therapies in the North West
Baxter opens new homecare pharmacy distribution centre to serve the needs of patients in the north of England
Baxter is committed to supporting the NHS to help patients manage their care at home
Cheadle, UK -
Baxter Healthcare Ltd today officially opened a new homecare pharmacy distribution centre in Cheadle, Manchester, to further serve the needs of patients in the north of England.
Baxter is committed to working with the NHS to ensure that where appropriate, patients can manage their care at home. The new 12,000 sq ft site houses and dispenses key products which enable patients to receive vital therapies at home rather than having treatment in hospital. Demonstrating a commitment to the North West, Baxter took the decision to invest in a new dedicated facility to enable the team to increase the number of patients it can serve in the future.
The team at Baxter were joined by healthcare professionals and patient representatives at the opening. After an official ceremony, the guests were given tours of the new facility to understand what happens when a prescription request is received through to products being sent out for delivery to patients in their home.
The home treatments which are served from the site are mainly based around nutrition and antibiotics and also services for rheumatoid arthritis, thalassemia and immunoglobulin treatment.
Andy Goldney, General Manager Baxter UK, Ireland and Nordic, said of the opening: "I was delighted to welcome our guests to our new site to formally open our new homecare pharmacy distribution hub. For more than 50 years Baxter has had a presence and long standing commitment in the UK. The new facility will increase our capability and capacity to provide life sustaining intravenous products to patients in the north of England who may require treatment for a few weeks, months or even years ahead."
The homecare pharmacy distribution service was previously provided from Baxter's aseptic compounding unit in Stockport, which will remain in its current location and continues to serve key hospitals in the north of England.
Baxter is further investing in the North West and is due to open a new education centre in early Summer which will enable patients to learn how to manage their home therapy, such as renal dialysis and home intravenous nutrition, in a residential setting.
