Intravenous Therapy

Intravenous Therapy is the infusion of fluids and medications (as well as blood products) to a patient directly into the blood stream.

The main objectives are as follows:

• the maintenance and restoration of fluid and electrolyte balance
• the provisions of medication and chemotherapy agents
• the delivery of parenteral nutrition
• the transfusion of blood products
