At Baxter we feel proud of the fact that our products help people to live longer and better lives. In delivering these therapies we know that the way in which we do business is increasingly important, from an environmental, social and economic perspective. Our EHS programmes  (along with our Best Citizen Initiatives )  help us work towards becoming a more sustainable UK business, and form an integral part of our overall approach to sustainability.  We report annually on our environmental, social and economic matters in our global sustainability report.

GRI is an international effort to create a common framework for voluntary reporting of the environmental, economic and social impact of our organisation and Baxter, as one of the first 21 companies to pilot GRI reporting in 1999, has pledged ongoing support for the GRI principles. Baxters Sustainability reporting is fully aligned with the GRI guidelines, and we are proud to be an organisation Stakeholder of this initiative.

The Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World is a project initiated by Corporate Knights Inc. with Innovest Strategic Value Advisors Inc., a  firm specialising in analyzing "non-traditional" drivers of risk and shareholder value, including companies’ performance on social, environmental and strategic governance issues. Launched in 2005, the annual Global 100 is unveiled each year at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Since 2005, Baxter has been named one of the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World every year.

Baxter’s sustainability performance and leadership were recently recognised as the company was named 2006 Medical Products Industry Leader of both the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) and the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index (DJSI North America), the world’s first benchmarks tracking the sustainability performance of top companies. Baxter’s leadership position resulted from best scores across a number of performance areas, including bioethics, codes of conduct, environmental performance and policy/management, talent attraction and retention, and social and environmental reporting.  2008 marks the tenth consecutive year Baxter has been listed in the DJSI since its launch in 1999, and the seventh year we have been listed as medical product leaders.
